Join leaders from the City of Vancouver’s green and resilient buildings team as they introduce Energize Vancouver—the city's new online hub for information and resources on current and upcoming energy and carbon requirements for existing large commercial and multi-family buildings.
The City now requires the owners and managers of Vancouver's largest commercial buildings to report their properties’ energy and greenhouse gas intensity data. The deadline for the first round of reporting is June 1, 2024. The city's benchmarking requirements expand in 2024, then, starting in 2026, the City will require certain buildings to meet defined greenhouse gas intensity limits.
This webinar will introduce the Energize Vancouver initiative and resource hub, and outline the current reporting requirement. Bonus: We'll also welcome special guests from the City of Toronto and City of Montreal, both of which are similarly rolling out mandatory building performance benchmarking programs.

Gurmeet Ghera works on developing and implementing decarbonization policies for existing large buildings, which includes working and partnering with commercial and residential sectors, utilities, consultants, and other levels of jurisdictions.
- Devon Stopps, Senior Engineer – Public Energy Initiatives, Environment & Energy Division, City of Toronto
Devon Stopps is a Senior Engineer in the City of Toronto’s Environment & Climate Division, with a long history of work in the decarbonization and energy efficiency space, as well as broad experience in business management, finance, and software systems engineering. Devon’s work at the City is focused on the development of mandatory requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing buildings and leads initiatives such as the energy and water reporting by-law & support programs and the Deep Retrofit Challenge program. To support the transition of buildings to net zero by 2040, the Devon’s broader team provides retrofit guidance and financing programs shown at Toronto.ca/bbp
- Valerie Anne Brouillard, Environmental and Climate Change Senior Engineer, Office of Ecological Transition and Resilience, City of Montréal
Valérie is an Environmental and Climate Change senior engineer at the Bureau de la transition écologique et de la résilience of the City of Montréal. As a specialist in environmental legislation, she was responsible for the development of a Strategy for GHG mitigation in Buildings in the Montreal Climate Plan 2020-2030 and for the Montreal roadmap to zero-emission buildings for 2040. Since 2021 she's leading the implementation and the enforcement of the Montreal Building Energy Rating and Disclosure Bylaw (benchmarking) and of the newly adopted Bylaw on GHG emission from new buildings banning all fossil gas connections for new buildings.
