XZEB 1180: Introduction to Deep Energy/Emissions Retrofits for Single-family and Small Multi-Family Homes

This is a fundamentals course that helps learners develop their knowledge base about several types of deep retrofits. International retrofit standards will be introduced, along with elements of behavioural economics related to homeowners’ decisions during the retrofit journey. Students will develop an understanding of the options available to assess an existing building for its deep retrofit potential.

Learn the fundamentals of life cycle assessment (LCA) and embodied carbon in construction for designers, energy advisors, energy modelers, and policymakers.

XZEB 1173: Applied Project for Site Supervision of Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Construction

This course allows students to practice what they have learned through an applied project. Under supervision of an advisor, students will develop and present a report demonstrating their understanding and competency in supervising Net-Zero, Net-Zero Ready, Passive House, or equivalent high-performance construction.

100% online, Tuesdays 6-9PM for 15 weeks, $794.53

XZEB 1171: Site Supervision of Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Construction

This course helps students learn how to manage new construction, coordinate construction for larger, more complex buildings, and become familiar with tools and construction checklists to systematically manage relevant issues for zero energy/emissions and Passive House buildings

Key topics include the airtightness, enclosure details, thermal bridging, mechanical services, construction management, quality assurance construction checklists, and compliance documentation.

XZEB 1146: Mechanical and Electrical Essentials for Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Buildings

This short course will provide participants with foundational knowledge on the mechanical and electrical systems found in Net Zero, Net Zero Energy-ready, and Passive House buildings.

Key topics include common mechanical systems, energy source options, BC Energy Step Code and Passive House requirements, and integrated design. 

100% online Monday and Thursday afternoons 1-2PM for 2 weeks, $132.90

XZEB 1150: Introduction to Solar Photovoltaic & Electrical Systems for Zero Energy & Passive House Homes

Through a case-study approach, this course outlines decision-making for planning, designing, and constructing/renovating a Zero Energy home with integrated solar PV and electrical systems.

Key topics include critical elements of a design-build process, pre-design considerations and requirements, future-proofing for new technologies and electrical circuit load capacity, equipment and monitoring options, and hand-off best practices.
