Zero Emissions Innovation Centre
Kelowna has firsthand experience with the damaging consequences of climate change - from record precipitation and historic floods to extreme heat, severe droughts and devastating wildfires. Yet, Kelowna's GHG emissions continue to rise, and buildings continue to account for about 38% of overall community emissions, not including embodied carbon. This contribution to Kelowna's carbon footprint can be reduced with climate-friendly project requirements, and responsible design and construction decisions.
Developing a business case for decarbonizing commercial buildings takes a deep understanding of the interplay between emissions reduction measures (like electrification) and energy conservation measures. It's a balancing act. Too much of one and not enough of the other can erode the business case or the decarbonization potential. Jawl Properties, a leading developer, owner and manager of premium commercial real estate in Victoria, has mastered the balancing act.
This webinar will explore a construction innovator’s approach to designing and delivering high-performance housing that can be manufactured off site or built on site and will provide insights for industry and local government from a new catalogue of practical, standardized, high performance, offsite-ready, affordable designs for multiplex to multifamily.
The approach, reflected in a new catalogue, has practical applications for local governments, design professionals, builders and developers.
