Tackling embodied carbon is critical to addressing the climate crisis and minimizing the overall footprint of the built environment. Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials and also typically the single largest contributor to a building’s embodied carbon.
When using low-carbon concrete, key points in the project decision-making process can make or break your chances for reducing embodied carbon. A cross-disciplinary collaboration of industry professionals has developed a new guide about how to evaluate and implement cost-effective strategies to reduce concrete’s carbon impact. Based on their lived experiences with projects in BC’s lower mainland, the findings are transferable in a pan-Canadian context.
