XZEB 1140 - Introduction to Residential Mechanical Systems for Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Buildings

Through a case-study approach, builders, designers, project managers, and energy advisors will learn best practices needed to ensure good design, installation, and verification of HVAC systems in residential projects. 100% online  Thursday evenings 6-9PM for 4 weeks*

Key topics include Energy Step Code and Passive House requirements; HVAC mechanical system options, costs, and performance; and best practices from design, tender, installation, and verification.

XZEB 1130 - Airtightness and Low-TEDI Enclosures Lab for Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Buildings

Use this 2-day lab course to complement your learning from XZEB 1120 through hands-on practice constructing and testing various air barrier systems, materials, and assembly details.  In-person Friday and Saturday 8AM-4:30PM*

Lab activities will cover air and thermal barrier approaches and details for foundations, above and below-grade walls, roofs, interfaces, windows, balconies, penetrations, and low-embodied carbon insulation material options.

XZEB 1120 - Airtightness and Low-TEDI Enclosures of Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Buildings

From the BCIT High Performance Building Lab, learn from industry experts through live construction demonstrations on the assembly details, material selection and compatibility, construction approaches, sequencing, and coordination, for airtight zero energy/emissions or Passive House building enclosures.  100% online lectures Thursday evenings 6-9PM for 7 weeks*

XZEB 1001 - Fundamentals of Zero Energy/Emissions and Passive House Buildings

Through a case-study approach, develop your understanding of BC Energy Step Code, Net Zero, Zero Carbon and Passive House standards, operational and embodied carbon, energy efficiency performance metrics, building science, integrated design, low-TEDI and airtight enclosures, and costing.  100% online, lectures Thursday evenings 6-9PM for 5 weeks*

XZEB 1150 – Introduction to Solar Photovoltaic & Electrical Systems for Zero Energy & Passive House Homes

This course focuses on best practices for integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and electrical systems in Zero Energy or Passive House homes. Through case-studies from a solar electrical design expert, learn the decision-making for planning, designing, and constructing/renovating a Zero Energy home with integrated solar PV and electrical systems.

100% online, Thursday evenings 6-9PM for 5 weeks*

XZEB 1165 Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessments Using Impact Estimator for Buildings

The second course of the Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment Professional microcredential builds on the technical foundation and basic principles of life cycle assessment (LCA) in XZEB 1160 to begin practicing whole-building LCA. In the course, learners will apply their understanding of fundamental LCA standards to whole-building LCA.

XZEB 1160 - Introduction to Embodied Carbon & Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessments

The first course of the Whole-Building Life Cycle Assessment Professional microcredential introduces the life cycle assessment (LCA) technical fundamentals needed for effective practice of whole-building LCA and the use of whole-building LCA results and environmental product declarations (EPDs). In this course, learners will develop their understanding of LCA standards, methods, and data.
