LEED V5: Focus on Decarbonization

LEED v5 was fundamentally restructured around carbon; it was redesigned to help drive the industry towards a decarbonized built environment across all major sources of emissions: operational, embodied, and transportation. LEED v5 provides a clear framework for delivering near-zero carbon buildings. This session will focus on the critical areas of LEED v5 BD+C that impact carbon and how decarbonization strategies are addressed, particularly operational carbon. LEED v5 O+M will be briefly touched on as well.

Highlights From Canada's National Embodied Carbon Summit

In June 2024, CAGBC hosted the inaugural National Embodied Carbon Summit. Together, 60 professionals from across the building sector identified key gaps and barriers in reducing embodied carbon in buildings and determined possible solutions for the industry.

Representatives from the building sector included: architects, engineers, construction management, sustainability consultants, and building material industry associations, as well as governments, agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and academic institutions.
