In June 2024, CAGBC hosted the inaugural National Embodied Carbon Summit. Together, 60 professionals from across the building sector identified key gaps and barriers in reducing embodied carbon in buildings and determined possible solutions for the industry.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) enables organizations to set decarbonization targets in line with the latest climate science. SBTi recently released their Buildings Criteria, with new requirements for validated decarbonization targets and other recommended best practices. The Criteria will apply to nearly all new (or renewed) building sector SBTi commitments as of March 2025.
