Members of the building industry across the Lower Mainland are invited to register for the free cutting-edge, Step 5 On-Site Workshops and learn all about the design, construction, and permitting of a ground-breaking townhouse project that targets compliance with Step 5 of the BC Energy Step Code, CHBA’s Net Zero Energy Ready Standard, and EL-4 of the Zero Carbon Step Code. The targets this project are committed to, exceed our provincial 2032 targets for energy and emissions, today.

These workshop webinars will review important foundational knowledge for low-carbon buildings, with an emphasis on the latest versions of CAGBC’s Zero Carbon Building standards. The requirements for both new and existing buildings will be addressed. Topics include:
- The zero carbon balance,
- The zero carbon transition plan,
- Embodied carbon,
- Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI),
- Energy use Intensity (EUI),
- Peak demand, and
- Renewable energy

Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) continue to increase in demand across Canada’s building industry because they support efforts to calculate and reduce embodied carbon. Building product manufacturers who have already invested in product Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), pursued their EPDs and maintained them, are meeting market demands and experiencing better business outcomes.

This half-day introductory workshop will introduce broad audiences to the WELL Building Standard, including its key certification process. The organization and development of the WELL Building Standard is presented in the context of the healthy buildings movement. Key public health research is discussed to provide the basis for the WELL concepts, and some research on the value of WELL is discussed.
This workshop will be a useful overview of the standard for WELL AP exam candidates.
