Builder Forum Series: Step Code Airtightness and Overheating Design

Register now for our upcoming online webinar on Thursday, October 17th, from 9:00 – 11:00 am.

James Higgins and James Bourget of RDH Building Science Inc. will be presenting on various design and implementation strategies for Part 9 buildings to comply with airtightness requirements for Step 4 and 5 of the BC Energy Step code. The presenters will also be showcasing compliant design strategies to meet overheating requirements per 9.33.3.1 of the BC Building Code.

Workshop 2: High Performance Building Envelopes and Step Code for Part 9 Homes

This half-day workshop will focus on bringing the learning of workshop 1 into practice by dividing participants into several groups to collaborate with their counterparts in developing various full-scale, coloured exterior insulated details based on the concepts covered in workshops 1 and 2. During this highly interactive session, Hamid Heidarali and his team will visit each group, review their details, and provide tailored comments and feedback.

4 AIBC, BOABC & BC Housing Credits available.

Workshop 1: High Performance Building Envelopes and Step Code for Part 9 Homes

This half-day workshop will start with an introduction to building envelope, the current energy efficiency trends, and the importance of a holistic approach to energy efficiency when dealing with higher levels of BC Energy Step Code. Following that, practical, holistic, and insightful solutions for addressing the above-mentioned three challenges will be presented based on several recently completed, fully exterior insulated wood-framed buildings in BC.

Builder Forum Series - Step 4 in the Township & Upper Steps: Design Best Practices

On Tuesday, July 11th, 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, the Township of Langley will be hosting an online builder forum to share information related to design best practices for Part 9 buildings building to the upper Steps of the BC Energy Step Code.

Differences between the lower Steps and upper Steps will be highlighted including mechanical, envelope, and aesthetic differences. An update from the Township of Langley's upcoming requirements for Step 4 and verification and submission requirements will be given at the beginning of the webinar.
